In 1975, Rielly Stares was born in the Canadian town of Kingston, Ontario. She attended Queen's University for a brief time and since then has been working and writing in Kingston. Her artwork has been chosen for inclusion in the Queen's University Human Rights Office Mosaic in 2011.
In 2010 the highly respected Kingston poet and writer Rose De Shaw listed Rielly Stares as a poet who "must be considered" in a long list for the job of Poet Laureate in Kingston.
